23. April: Essen - Monheim, 62 km
|
Parting After a through-celebrated night it
was then finally time to leave: At 12 o'clock we stood finally
ready with our luggage and our tandem to leave our roommates,
friends and family behind. We are happpy that we made it in time,
because in the last days before the start we still had to buy a lot
for our trip, we had 3 Interviews, and we had to get everything ready
and also make our flat completely empty.
|
|
|
The number of the friends
and spectators was overwhelming, and we were happily being
accompanied by some frinds, all on bikes, up to the Düsseldorf
railway station where we finally said goodbye to them.
Starting from there we went to Monheim, where we spent a relaxed
evening with
Bennys brother and sister and acquaintance and after dinner
(and even for a short time in the restaurant)
completely overtired we fell to bed.

|
24. April: Monheim - Sinzig, 90 km
|
Japanese gymnastics After we were dead tired the
previous evening, we fell in bed straight away. On this day we went
past a great Cologne cathedral called the "Kölner Dom".
We were also promptly surrounded by many friendly smiling Japanese people.
One also showed great photography experienc, and he was rolling over
the ground in order to make a good photo from us - well done!
When we arrived then finally at ten o'clock
of evening at Sinzig, we were shown great hospitality
by parents of our former roommates and we had a great evening with them.

|
25. April: Sinzig - Bingenfeld, 114 km
|
Our so far longest stage of
115 kilometers led us from Sinzig on the Rhine along to the south.
On this scenic beautiful journey we had additionally still much
luck with the weather, and so cycled along the river rhine with
wonderful sun. Among other things we made today rest at the "
German corner" in Koblenz.
In the evening we were pleased about
the HoGastfrendschaft of Benjamin, student from Bingenfeld, whom we had
contacted over the Hospitalityclub and which was so nice us a sleep
place for the night to offer.

|
26. April: Bingenfeld - Griesheim, 76.1 km
|
Although we had up-eaten the day before it everything, not probably was us Petrus. It rained nearly all day long, but for all that we had a beautiful day. On the one hand our route led us through in full bloom of standing fruit plan days, and in the evening we still made together with Urs, which we over the wheel forum, Darmstadt uncertainly.
|
|
|
27. April: Griesheim - Ladenburg, 62.4 km
|
Packing our Heavy Load Vehicle One of our morning
favourite occupations is loading our "Heavy Load Vehicle"
called Hase Pino. The
breakfast is finished and we are already tired of packing everything
together, as out system is still very bad and takes lots and lots of time.
On this day we met Bennys parents, who wanted to cycle with us for
2 days.
|
|
|
And in such a way we made
ourselves still another relaxed cycling day, where we had a little bit
of rain. Still it was nice and peacful to cycle along the cyclepathes
next to the river rhine.
In the evening we arrived then in the beautiful
ancient city of Ladenburg.
|
|
|
28. April: Ladenburg - Lingenfeld 54 km
|
The second day of the
cycling with Bennys parents we were more lucky: The
sun smiled at us! Therefore we spent a beautiful day on the bicycle.
Particularly beautifully was the lawns and meadows along the
Rhine before Speyer
But today we had to say goodbye to someone again:
Benny does not know when he will see his parents again.
In the evening we continued to
Lingenfeld where we stayed on a nice campground, and spent the first
time on our journey one night in the tent.

29. April: Special bikes fair Germersheim
|
Who becomes millionaire?
On the special bikes fair we stood a whole weekend for the
visitors of the fair with our loaded tandem and a map of
the world with our prospective route.
So we could come with many nice humans into
contact, who were interested in our journey. Questions
how: What do you do if something brakes? Do you not have
fear of this or that one? Were questions frequently asked.

|
30. April: Special wheel fair Germersheim, Lingenfeld - Karlsruhe, 47 km
|
Kribbeln in the belly: Slideshow The day began very
exciting for us as we sould present a slideshow on the special bikes
show exhibition in Germersheim about the journey we wanted to make.
Also we met a lot of interesting people on the bikeshow and made smoe
friends which we might visit during our journey.
We today completed our vehicle with a "air sound"
horn, which reaches a volume of believe it or not up to 110 decibil.
After departure we had another escort of some fellow cyclists
for the third time: Our friends from the "Hase Bikes"
company accompanied us a bit toward Karlsruhe.
|
|
|
|
1. and 2. May: Karlsruhe
|
| Arrived at Karlsruhe we spend the next two days with friends of Mandy. To all the preparation stress of the last weeks and months this really beautiful city loaded us directly to strolls, relaxen and explores. In addition, organize, to telephone and the homepage update stood on the program, beside which wash passionately loved laundry; -)

3. - 9. May: Figurative Impressionen
|
In the last days
we cycled from Karlsruhe to Regensburg, and tomorrow evening we
want to be in Passau and place there also some reports.
First already a few photo impressions:

3. May: Karlsruhe - Ludwigsburg, 92.6 km
Original from Bennys diary:
|
Again we
need a long time to get ready this morning.
Anyway the German province of "Baden-Wuerttemberg"
pleases us very much and we enjoy cycling, apart from some exhausting hills.
On the roads leading uphill we think every single meter what we possibly
could throw away, thinking of coming higher mountains to cross.
In any case we stretch our hammock
on a nice fruit-tree covered meadow and rest ourselves a littled bit
after the hills.
|
|
Who calls us from the window? It is Roland, whom we met
before with his bicycle. He is very friendly and offers us even
dinner and accommodation. Roland is one of many coming into West from
East Germany in order to find good work. A little sadly we reject his
offer after a very nice chat, since we want to proceed to visit Mandys
friend Nadja.
The landlady of Nadja is in any case a witch. She did not want to allow Nadja
the she would have us as their guests
, and we have a discussion for several minutes. Nadja, the small, reserved,
friendly person is said to make the old lady too much stress.
For everyone the own fate is probably the heaviest. I shower, we eat
together Spaghetti - this is great for us, and the girls talk, while
Benny fall to sleep very overtired.

4. May: Ludwigsburg - Aalen 91.9 km
Stranded in a 12-people community
|
|
The way is the goal, and we try to reach Aalen and meet people from the
Hospitalityclub, where we gladly arrived in the university city at night.
A friendly and
multicoloreful composed community of 12 people lives there and
they already expected us. After we had satisfied our hunger,
we sat still for a long time outside on the improvised Terasse, chatted
and played RISK to 6 o'clock in the morning.
|
|
|
|
5. May: Aalen - allium home, 20.7 km
|
| Since we enjoyed it to
stay with the people in the Aalen community so much, we naturally
needed our 6-8 hours sleep to wake up not before 15 and not be ready
before 17 o'clock. On
this day we only went another 20 kilometers, before we
went forest to find a nice and silent spot to sleep, and we enjoy the
peace in the
forest and go to sleep immediately.
|
|
|
|
6. May: Allium home - Marx home, 68.2 km
Danube is owing to!
|
Jippieh! Finally we
reached the Danube river on this day! We made a nice picknick at
the Danube spontaneously,
since we had the feeling that we fairly earned this.
We had been pleased to be able now to relax at the Danube.
But, what a surprise, the Danube cycle path does not always stays in
the valley but goes up and down a lot!
|
|
|
|
7. May: Marx home - Grossmehring, 69.2 km
|
| South of the "white
sausage equator", the Main river, we cycled from village to
village and came to a pause in Ingolstadt on a meadow beside a
playground where we had some rest. After a short, but successful
fight with
the gasoline stove we finally enjoyed the hot-hungry expected
and passionately loved Spaghetti with Tomatosauce.
|
|
|
|
8. May: Grossmehring - Matting, 66.2 km
Lovely bell:
|
In the morning
we were waked up by a deafening noise and thought that some
vehicle might run into our tent soon.
But no, it was only the lovely noise of the urban irrigation
tractor, which would have away-washed our tent with this action
nearly.
To a further nice cycling day,
on a meadow directly at the Danube river opposite from a
nice beer garden we found some peace and a nice camping spot.
|
|
|
|
9. May: Matting - Kiefenholz 43.0 km
|
At this we
were of course awake early, and still it took lots of time to
get ready, have breakfast in peace and to enjoy the sun on
this nice Danube meadow. After a while then also Stefan, another
cyclist which we had met one day ago arrived on the same meadow.
Several-day-long we were now accompanied by good weather. In
this evening we however already made after 43 kilometers stop,
although we wanted actually to go still further. But we saw
a thick fat black cloud, and remembered the nice lawn in Kiefenholz
which we passed just a minute ago, and we just had our tent up
before the big rain started.
|
|
|
|
10. May: Kiefenholz - Passau 125 km
Hop and Malt - God protect it (German saying)!
|
| A little tail
wind, made us a great speed to hit Passau quite quick. Just at
the Austrian border, we started to get in touch with strage
cultures quite quick.
First communication difficulties arise to us and we had some
problems with the hilly-german accent, but we could cope with it.
|
|
|
|
11. May: Quiet day in Passau
|
| Today
the bicycle stood still, and we organize the last things in Germany.
Starting from tomorrow we will leave the country, and
reports from Austria and the further countries will follow.
